If you purchased iPhone 4S, you probably know by now that Siri is integrated with Wolfram Alpha - the computational knowledge engine. You can force Wolfram Siri to be used by your application with "Wolfram".
But the problem is, there is no telling what all you can do with Siri. expert and iPhone developer Erica Sadun, along with Steve Sande has an ebook called "Talking to Siri 'on the Kindle store, which teaches you how to use Siri from the ground up.
She has shared her favorite 10 things you can do with Siri and Wolfram Alpha from her book:
- Roll a random number. Say "Wolfram, random integer. "Wolfram gives a random value between 0 and 1000." Wolfram, random number "provides a 0 to a floating point value.
- Look up the facts of nature. Say: "Wolfram, what is the scientific name of a mountain lion?" It is Puma concolor. Rabbits are Leporidae, and peacocks, Galliformes.
- Make this holiday season. Say: "How many days until Thanksgiving?" This gives both the number of days as a useful calendar, so you can chart out the time until then.
- Create a secure password. Say "Wolfram, password. "Wolfram generates a hard to crack eight-character password. Scroll down for the alternates. If you have a longer password, you can add these together.
- Convert text into Morse code. Say: "What is Morse code for Horse Feathers? ' You see the entire series built for fun tapping.
- Check your diet. Say: "How many calories in a small apple?" Wolfram will tell you that there are 75.
- To take questions about time zones. Say: "Wolfram, what is the local time in Jakarta?"
- Ask about your chances. Say: "Wolfram, what is the probability of a full house?" For any five-card hand, it is apparently one in 694.
- Have fun with pop culture. Say: "What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?" or "Wolfram, who shot the sheriff? "
- Visualize colors. Okay, I saved the best for last. If you work with color, this can save you time. Say: "Tungsten gate E 9 7 4 5 1" (Burnt Sienna / Mandarin) or "pound sign Wolfram September 2 GB July 8" (for Jungle Green). This will convert the RGB color values and look up closely matching brand colors from Benjamin Moore. Make sure you scroll down to capture any useful information.
